RANDY STERN: News
Recording new album - March 20, 2008
Dear friends,
It looks like it's really happening. I'm finally going to begin recording my very first solo album. A new producer, Hugh Pool, has been brought onboard. I'm very excited to be working with Mr. Pool whose credits include Patti Smith, The National, Rufus Wainwright, Deborah Harry and legendary blues artist Hubert Sumlin. I'm also looking forward to working with some of New York City's finest musicians including Richie Touseull (bass), Vinny Cimino (drums) and Jerome Brooks (keyboards).
Work on the album will begin at Excello Studios the first week of April. Just in time for my birthday! The completed CD should be available by summertime. Stay tuned here and at myspace.com/randystern for updates.
Many of you know and have shared in the process that I've been going through leading up to this project, and many of you have lent your help. I am truly grateful for all the support I've received. Thank you so very much from the depths of my soul.
Love,
Randy :)
"New" name - December 11, 2007
It's been a while. How are you? The latest news is my "new" name. Well, it's really my old name. The name I was given by my family. It feels true. It feels right. It feels natural. It feels real. I started feeling uncomfortable with the name "Randy Nerve". That was a name from another chapter in my life, and it's a good name. Even with the breakup of the old band, it served me well for the past year. But now I feel as though I've outgrown it. I feel like a different person. I feel like me. Randy Nerve represented a different time and musical direction. I just didn't feel comfortable with it anymore, and I didn't want to change it to another made up name. I wanted to be true to myself. This is not to say that I think that artists who change their names are not true to themselves. Some of the greatest, truest, most honest artists change their names. It just doesn't feel true for me. Randy Stern feels true. That's the news. The next installment will most likely pertain to the new solo album. Happy holidays and see ya next year. Let's hope it's a good one without any fear!
Love and joyous tidings,
Randy Stern :)
Happy Summer! - June 27, 2007
Happy summer everyone! Hope yours is going well so far. I just had a photo shoot done with a wonderfully talented photographer, Erica McDonald. Erica is known for her work with Rhino records, Nonesuch records, and Paula Cole ("Postcards from East Oceanside"). My home page and all the pics on the photo page, except for the first two and last three, are Erica's work. Check her out at
www.lightstalkers.org/ericamcdonald.
The photo session was for my upcoming debut solo album, tentatively titled "Give". Work will begin on the album in early 2008. It will be produced by Eric "Roscoe" Ambel, known for his work with Steve Earle, Joan Jett (original Blackhearts guitarist), Nils Lofgren, the Bottlerockets, and the Yayhoos.
Also, as always, I'm continually performing all over and around the city. Check the calendar page often, as it is updated frequently.
Thanks to everyone for your continued support and good vibes. This solo thing has turned out to be quite a journey and a blessing so far. All the best to all of you in your own journeys.
Love,
Randy :)
The Nerve! says "farewell" - October 25, 2006
I'm pleased and also sad to announce the final performance of the band I've fronted for 10 years, The Nerve! (see the previous news entry for details).
For the past 3 years we've hosted an all day, all ages Christmas bash at Peggy O'Neill's in Coney Island. So, we figured that would be the best way to say goodbye. As always there will be lots of bands and lots of fun. The show will take place on Saturday, December 16th. Details will follow, so keep checking back here and at
www.thenerve.info and
www.myspace.com/thenerverocks.
much love,
Randy :)
Welcome! - September 22, 2006
Hi. This is my first website ever. Since the mutual decision on the part of all involved to disband The Nerve!, I've embarked on my journey as a solo artist. I've started doing acoustic shows, writng new songs, recording demos, and working on other projects such as film soundtracks. More on all of this stuff will be revealed as I get more information. Right now I'm just as clueless as any of you who might be reading this. And what a wonderful place to be! :)
The Nerve! will be playing it's final show as a band sometime in December, probably during the holiday season. I am very proud of the work that The Nerve! has done over our 10 year history. We've accomplished a lot, made some good music, good friends, and have had lots of amazing experiences and lots of fun. And now I'm looking forward to all the new experiences to come as I begin a new chapter in my life. Thanks to everyone who has joined The Nerve! during our 10 year jaunt. I hope you'll join me as well.
Peace, love and harmony,
Randy Nerve :)
